God of War 3 Dev’s Message to Bayonetta, Dante’s Inferno, etc.

For the past month or so, several sites have been comparing the God of War franchise to newcomers Bayonetta and Dante’s Inferno. EDGE even proclaimed the former “slaps the face of Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board” in it’s perfect 10 review of the game. Darksiders and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, by being action/adventure games due next year, were also dragged into the mess later on.
Bruno Velazquez is Lead Game Animator for SCEA and working on God of War 3, who not too long ago delivered a message to all upcoming contenders.
Velazquez was discussing the release of God of War 3 media when he mentioned Bayonetta and other competitors.
“Let me go ahead and make one thing clear: we have not forgotten about the GOW fans. The last few months the entire team has been putting many late hours working very hard in polishing the game to make it the best possible. The reason why we do this is because we are passionate about making a great game for all you guys out there that are patiently waiting for GOW3.
“I understand that next year we will have lots of competition with games like Bayonetta, Darksiders, Dante’s Inferno, and Castlevania but we all we can do is worry about making our game good and making it a fitting end to the trilogy…
“I will leave you guys with the fact that currently that the game is fully playable from beginning to end and we have had various playtests already with people from the outside. We have already gotten tons of feedback. Every boss battle and every enemy is in the game. We are just focusing on polishing and making adjustments and changes to places that are needed in the game. I want to assure you guys that the game is on track and we cannot wait to get it in your hands next March.”
Velazquez also mentioned on his blog that the screens showed in the October issue of GamePro were, “from a newer build than E3. To be honest the game looks better in the current build” which can be attested to impressions of the game at a secret event in New York just recently. He also stated, in response to the Trivium song, that, “[The song is] not in the game. We will stay true to original GOW soundtrack. The will be a seperate Metal Soundtrack which should be really awesome!” Something more to look forward when the game hits in March 2010 for the PS3.

EDGE is rubbish and people who are able to walk upright for 2 minutes would know that by looking at their track record. bayonetta is a good game but suffers a bit in the technology department but cannot be compared to g.o.w 3 because the game isnt out yet and by g.o.ws previous games and the g.o.w 3 demo we can assume it will be way better on a technological level. g.o.w 3 =1080p @60fps. bayonetta is not even close. gameplay is what matters most but that’s like saying foreplay and 4th base matters first before looking and admiring the beauty of a chick. i dont like messing about with someone i think is unattractive. my motto is graphics first, gameplay second . most games have tight gameplay , especially this gen games .

Gameplay first boyo. Especially when GOW 3 may look nice but every other GOW was repetitive, good overall but repetitive. Bayonetta(Demo anyway) was as well. I personally think GOW should’ve ended after the first a tragic ending was a nice change.
I agree with dylantalon, most sony exclusive’s this gen push the techniqucal boundaries further and further. And GOW 3 is no different. there is nothing in the same genre that comes any were near GOW 3 techiqucal achievements.

Wasn’t impressed with GOW 1 or 2 so 3 will most likely be a let down. Very repetitive gameplay. Graphics look AMAZING for GOW 3 but that only takes a game so far. I’ll still buy it because I’m a sucker for a hyped game.
The God of War III: Ultimate Trilogy Edition has just been anounced and I’m waiting for Game (or Amazon) to update so I can preorder it! I’m not going to pay anymore than £100 though! It is basically the Ultimate Edition but with the GoW Collection but North America is the only place where it has been released so far!
And I’ve always hated EDGE! IDK but other comments are saying things about EDGE, I only read the “-”
If there is one thing I like about the God of War staff it’s the fact that they’re all very professional. Even back when David Jaffe was directing, he would be more than happy to give his 2 cents on what games games would give GOW a run for it’s money. He praised DMC3, even though he ragged on Dante’s new cocky attitude (which many found grating anyway).
Bruno Velazquez is being very careful with what word he uses in the interview, stressing the fact that GOW will be everything they promised and more, without stepping on other game’s toes. Very professional.
It’s the imbecile GOW fanboys that stupidly trash-talk everything and put the game on some impossible pedestal, as if it were the definitive action game.
Mr. Velazquez makes a great point! That’s why i want GOWIII more than Dante’s Inferno or Bayonneta, because I’m a GOW fan and I just want a good end to the epic trilogy! That’s the one thing I love most about the GOW series: The setting and story, they coincide so perfectly, sure competitors may do certain things ” better ” than GOWIII, but Dante’s Inferno as well as Bayonneta WILL NOT give GodofWar trilogy its anticipated ending, only GodofWarIII itself can do that to satisfy its fans!

Dude every game gets repetitive. Shooters, fighters, DMC, Bayonetta, every game, but none of them is as epic as GOW. GOW 2 was better than GOW 1 so it would have been a tragedy if then ended it there. BTW I would like to know what games you thought wasn’t repetitive.
For the ultimate EPIC experience; there is nothing better than GOW 3, wait until early January, than all critics will be put to shame.

I’ve played Demos for both games, and keep in mind the guy who made Bayonetta was responsible for GOWs Grand Daddy Devil May Cry. Bayonetta is really hot don’t underestimate, it’s really awesome game graphics wise as well as game play wise. 1080P GOW 3 is upscaled from a much lower rez. Bayonetta will also be upscaled.to 1080P. Do you really think the PS3 can do true 1080P at 60FPS for GOW3? It could not do it for Tekken 6, there is no way it will do it for GOW3.

I played Dante’s Demo and Bayonetta demo and belive me those games aren’t close to GOW3 dante’s looks like a PS2 game very well optimized for me bayonetta is a good game but not big as GOW3… GOW3 is a very solid game ok SNAKE is more SOLID lol just to brake the ice… GOW3 its better than those 2 games…

Forgot to add: I played the bayonetta demo and i hate it. Awfull character design, terrific music. This is a game for japanese gamers and teens. The overall design is DMC4 from top to bottom.
Look EDGE are rubbish for game reviews. Thanks to their stuck up reviews I could had missed out on Metal Gear Solid and ended up with Scibblenauts! And as for the bayonetta demo it was utter shite compared to other games in the same genre. So far GOW3 looks sweet as candy for me and I’m looking forward to a demo of that to test out. Hey kikizoo you must be one of the idiots who said Halo ODST rocks… cos a few review sites said so.. unfortunately if you look at game of the year/shooter of the year Halo ODST isn’t in many of the categories. Borderlands, MW2, Battliefield 1943 trounces it. Sad xbot troll….
Edge gave ODST and Uncharted 2 the same score (9). So to them ODST=UC2.

Im kind of glad they acknowledge Bayonetta as their biggest competition, look people, who ever says GOWIII is the best before actually playing it — is just stupid. Heres my honest opinion, I love GOW, I’ll buy part 3, but the guy who practically made Part 2 is gone… I’m not worried cause one guy is expensable, no matter if he is Hironobu Sakaguchi [FF Creator], but is GOW really gonna top something out of Bayonetta? I highly doubt it will, have you seen the fight against Fortitudo? Its fucking jawdropping and its not even the best in the game. Im really crossing my fingers for some originality.

What would you have given KillZone 2 then? A 7.5 maybe an 8? Good game I like playing it a lot but not what everyone says. People talk about it like its the best game ever. Its not, not even close.
fanboys or not, epic or not, built up or not, repetitive or not, play the game, beat it and enjoy it.
in the end you decide what you like yourself not based on what other people think but from what you experienced.
i personally played both demos for dantes inferno and bayonetta. but i think thats as much as i will ever play them. theyve been deleted already.
gow3 i will buy as i have already played the first two and loved them.
competition is good as it provides us gamers with more options.

DarkSiders is just bad programing, sorry guys but look at the videos, the game looks like your playing with a shrunken version of kratos with armor, design is childish. Sure the story is original when i heard about it, but come the fuck on! one of the 4 horse men from the apocalypse deserves more detailed and grotesque styled graphics. As far as Dante”s Inferno… I found the fights very repetitive, its like playing god of war chains olympus for a next-gen console. Great titles need years of development and a great team, originality is the name of the game. nuf said.

Bayonetta is hilarious. It does not take it’s self or the genre seriously and that is what makes it great. Not to imply that the gameplay itself is not polished: it has a perfected sheen, in fact.
It is much more fluid than GOW 3 and runs at a higher native resolution By “fluid” I mean that actual gameplay: combos can be endlessly intertwined in Bayonetta in a much flashier and smoother way than GOW 3, (which fells like a step backward compared even to GOW 2) you feel more free to jump around and just wreak over-the-top havok on your foes. This feeling of complete visceral freedom – I’ve missed it since the first GOW.
The God of War series just tries too hard to be epic, awesome, and/or radical now – it’s embarrassing to play through. GOW 1 and 2 are some my favorite actions games; GOW 3 just doesn’t feel or look right. It feels contrived and the movement feels limited, the demo tries to evoke feelings that came natural to the 1st and 2nd. (I have played through Bayonetta and played the demo for GOW 3)
Obviously, final judgment will be reserved for when I play through GOW 3 but judging by the demo and videos this is looking to be a lax and disappointing entry in a tired series.
Who cares. All these games look awesome. Yay gamers win, rejoice.
