Rare Project Natal Game Cancelled: “Undisclosed Prototype” in Works for 1 Year
Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage 10 ResponsesRemember that Project Natal game where Rare “managed a large team of engineers working on a tight schedule to go from pre-production to finished product in a year”? Turns out they’re not really going to get around to finishing this year – or ever.

This rumoured Project Natal game from Rare, found in the Linkedin profile of Software Director Bjørn Toft, was thought to involve avatars. Given Toft’s association with avatars in the past (and let’s not forget those ever-so wonderful demonstrations shown at E3 2K9), it seemed a given. Well, whatever it was has been cancelled, that too after only 4 months of involvement on Toft’s part, “due to changing business environment”.
That’s not all. Toft also posted about an undisclosed prototype Rare has been working on – alone, not in conjunction with Microsoft Game Studios – for almost a year. Your guess is as good as ours as to what it could be.

Did microsoft buy rare just so they could cancel all their games?? Douche bags…
Natal will fail, it’s pretty simple, name one thing about it that is good? name one thing about it that beats the Wii? or the PS3 Motion tech coming? name one, I dare you? that’s right, you can’t…..oh no control? exactly, no control.
Where the hell is Killer Instinct and PD Matter?
u talk shit, shut the fuck up u wank stain
Maybe Sony can port some Eyetoy games over for MS. Just old tech anyway.
…..
we want conker sequel!
This interests me, the fact that Rare has gone out of their way to get rid of M$ looking over their shoulder to make a game could be a very good thing, but I just can’t think of what it could be, a new series? A long-awaited sequel to an old series?
For a moment there my heart rose with excitement thinking of a DKC4, but then I realized that couldn’t happen..unless Rare is making this new game for the Nintendo DS? Unlikely, considering they were suppose to have closed down that department, but still WHAT COULD IT BE?
I’ll keep an eye on this to see how it develops..
