Kameo 2 Was in Development: Cancelled in Late 2007
Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage 6 ResponsesYou have to wonder. On June 8th 2008, Rare senior software engineer Nick Burton stated that Kameo: Elements of Power (and Perfect Dark Zero, another Rare title exclusive to XBox 360) had “made a lot of money” for the company in a profession where, “If you break even you’re lucky, you’re in the minority. If you make a decent amount of money you’re really in the minority. You’re in the top percentile.” Now, it’s come to light that Kameo was indeed due for a sequel, but was cancelled in late 2007. This happened nearly 2 years after the release of the original.
One thing can be said about recent footage of animations for the sequel: Kameo had changed. Her body, before more cartoony, is slender and sleek as she bounds up walls, slides through ladder rungs and tip-toes along wall tops. The game itself looks to be less of an adventure title and more acrobatic action-based a la Prince of Persia and Heavenly Sword. Was the sudden change in art-style and gameplay done to appease to more mature fans of the 360?
As you’ll see in the development shot, the tattoo on the model’s leg matches that of Kameo from the first game; also, the word “Kameo” can be seen at the bottom. At least we know now of one Rare sequel that’s never gonna happen.

why why why rare why!!!!!!
one of the best game in my xbox 360
plz rare make this game
They canceled the conkers sequel and this and made that shitty banjo game SCREW YOU RARE.
RARE, IF YOU REALLY CANCELLED KAMEO 2, HONESTLY SHAME ON YOU, YOU JUST RUINED THE ENTIRE PLATFORM INDUSTRY…. BRAVO….
This has to be the one of the biggest mistakes ever. MS cancelled this but let Viva Pinata (the game which MS complained at) get a sequel. Both were good games and both deserved sequels. But what did we get instead of Kameo’s sequel?
A banjo game which they already admitted started out as a platformer but was BUTCHERED! Microsoft’s decision to cancel this doesn’t make sense at all. Kameo was a great game and imo is one of the best games they’ve made since they moved. I can tell this was a very good move for the game and this would have sold really well. But on top of that the cliffhanger may taunt me forever now. Between Rare’s decision to ruin Banjo and Microsoft’s decision to cancel this I can’t decide which is worse.
WHERE THE FUNK IS KILLER INSTICT 3!?!?!?
Well I have read from other sites that despite being a launch title for 360, Kameo didnt sell very well, just over 300000 copies were sold. IMO, I could care less how many copies were sold, if it got great reveiws thats all that should matter in games. And Nick Burton NEVER said of Kameo 2 being cancled, so that may shed some light and give hope to you. Even though its a rumor, many people say its true, whenever we say somethings true, HALF the time were wrong. So dont get down in misery yet.
