Michael Jackson Video Game To Be Cancelled?

Filed under: Game Reviews and Opinion 6 Responses

michael_jackson_with_sister_janetMichael Jackson, the King of Pop, the man who influenced artists like Justin Timberlake and inspired bands like Alien Ant Farm, has died at the age of 50. In the midst of all this confusion and tragedy is his little known (to every one but gamers) title to be released for the Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Wii. Given that the title would be one of the last pieces of work to come from MJ Productions, there’s no doubt that Jackson himself was involved in development. If not directly, then there’s still the issue of ownership over his various clips, songs, albums, performances and whatnot. The entanglements to follow will not be pretty. Jackson earlier played the protagonist in the infamous and much berated Moonwalker for the Sega Genesis and Master System.

If the game were to release, it would be termed as many things: A coaster. A cash-in. Memorabilia. As of now, the fate of the game is unknown with the death of one of the greatest pop stars of all time. Time will tell whether it actually releases or not (the game was due to come out at the end of 2009) and for that matter, who will be benefit. Because now, Jackson is forever above such things.

It’s really too bad. I, for one, would buy it simply to commemorate the loss of such a profound and talented artist but you’re absolutely right. Releasing the title would, forever, be branded as a cash-in. It’s too bad because I had always been holding out hope for a Singstar Michael Jackson, perhaps a legacy release with some documentary attachments and features to remember him by? It’s a shame ANYTHING and EVERYTHING will be looked at with such disdain.

I hope this still comes out.
I’m sure fans would want one last thing he was involved with to be released.

They HAVE TO KEEP WORKING THAT GAME. I still rememebr the movie i like the scence where inside a bar and start shooting wiht a tommy gun around the window. That stage it felt epic and ofcourse the flip coin into jukebox. Still best king pop live on!

If they do continue on the game, I think they should rework it to revolve around the spirit (as in ghost, not zombie) of Michael Jackson, and that his spirit is even more powerful than his deceased earthly self. If they scrap that project, there’s always Elvis or Tupac.
