Only in India: Mumbai Wii Tennis Tournament

wii-tennisMeasuring the popularity of Wii Sports is akin to measuring the popularity of the Wii: For every console sold, that’s one satisfied family of wannabe tennis players. I don’t know why I haven’t heard of it more abroad, in Japan even where the console originates from, but this may very well be the first ever tournament held for a Wii title…ever.

Organized by Indiagames.com, the Mumbai Wii Tennis Tournament will be held on April 25th, Saturday, from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM IST at Indiagames Ltd, 11th Floor, Vishwaroop IT Park above Raghuleela Mall in Vashi Navi Mumbai. The tournament will be a best of 5 sets elimination-style game. It has 38 confirmed guests and 281 unconfirmed guests. Among those participating is the vaunted Editor-in-Chief (hi, Jacob!) of SKOAR!, India’s only gaming magazine. I shudder to think of what could be next for our country – maybe a road-style Bollywood movie in the tone of 1989’s The Wizard featuring dual Wii Zappers wielded by a masked Hrithik Roshan? Well, one can certainly hope against hope that these kinds of tournaments are what we stick to.
