You can take Bungie out of Halo but you can’t take the Halo out of Bungie. In a testament to that axiom, Bungie Entertainment revealed the development of the prequel-esque Halo 3: ODST at the Tokyo Game Show last year and described how you’d be chugging it without the Chief this time around. Just recently, Bungie released several new screens of the game to the public. After all, nothing builds hype for a title, ahem, like hi-res graphics.
Halo 3: ODST (formerly Halo 3: Recon) chronicles the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, or ODST unit of the Halo-verse, as they drop into Mombasa and attempt to ascertain why the Covenant annihilated it. Given the complete change in perspective – the ODSTs are not superhuman or cybernetic like the Chief – you can expect some additions to reflect that. A release date is still to be decided, what with Halo Wars likely to hog the limelight in the beginning of 2009. However, it’s doubtless that ODST is closer to what most Halo fans expect from their FPS-based franchise. You can view all the new screens of Halo 3: ODST here.
