Still Alive: New WET Screens Revealed

Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage No Responses

wet1Several Sierra franchises, owned by Activision, were being consolidated for future release when it merged with Blizzard. This included WET, a third person action title, leading many to conclude the game was either cancelled or on indefinite hold. Illuminate Labs, however, recently revealed new screenshots for the title against a predicted 2009 release by AM2.wet-3

The initial trailer contrasts greatly with the screens. There’s a less muddy, more subdued illumination in the levels, all thanks to middle-ware developer, Illuminate Labs‘, Beast engine. As David Lightbown, senior Artistic Technical Director of AM2 Montreal, puts it:

“A2M has used Turtle in the past, and we were consistently impressed with the speed as well as the results. When we needed a solution to generate lightmaps in our proprietary level editor, we turned to Beast and haven’t looked back. Beast allows us to produce high quality lighting at an incredible rate, which is instrumental in creating the unique visual style that sets WET apart from any other product on the market.”

wet2The game appears compelling, which isn’t saying much, given the negligible amount of details concerning the game play and the glaring similarities to Tomb Raider. And the story? You’ll play Rubi, a gun-for-hire involved in one of those rescue missions which, rather predictably, goes wrong. WET is due for release on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
