Following reports by CVG (now a dead link), it was speculated that Sony was already developing a next-generation Playstation Portable, dubbed the PSP2. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president, David Reeves, had a different take on the matter.
“No, there are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment.”
Reeves also added that Sony had its hands full with the recently released PSP-3000 and is, “still focused with this generation of the platform.” It would make sense to first remedy the lack of games for the portable before embarking on a new venture. Reeves stated that developers were taking their titles to other platforms first but assured that “games will come. They just take a while longer.”
As of now, there are only about seven quality titles to be released for the PSP, including Square-Enix’s Dissidia, Final Fantasy XIII Agito and The 3rd Birthday besides Level 5′s Ushiro and Ni no Kuni: The Another World. None of these have definite English release dates thus far.
