As many no doubt know, the gaming scene is going to get very busy in 2009. This is due to the sheer number of scheduled blockbusters – Final Fantasy XIII, Forza 3, Resident Evil 5 and more. And the momentum doesn’t stop there. Today, we’ve received a jaw-dropping news release and a momentous rumour: details of God of War 3 for the PS3 and Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 360, respectively.
So, GoW 3′s “detail is crafted with highest of care and the animations sell the experience like nothing you’ve ever seen” and Gears 3 is rumoured to be releasing somewhere in 2010. The latter is especially interesting, since David Jaffe stated his new game would be out “sometime in 2010. Certainly not later than that. Perhaps sooner.” His exclusive contract to produce games for the Playstation platform and collaboration on God of War 2 (despite not being a part of SCEA per say) only fuels rumours of his involvement in the third game.
Which leads to the million dollar question: Are we looking at a 2010 clash between these two giants?
Both are equipped with their own tweaks – GoW 3 with a second playable character and new game play mechanics, and Gears 3 with it’s 5 player co-op. Both are summations of the most illustrious trilogies in next-gen gaming. Hell, both of them have the same initials.
It certainly makes business sense for both companies. Both platforms will have access to EA, Capcom, Bandai-Namco and Square-Enix multi-platformers. Microsoft, with no other exclusive AAA blockbusters planned (Too Human is a joke; Mass Effect is absconding). Sony, with Killzone 2 and timed FFXIII exclusivity, is ready to sustain its momentum going into 2010. It’s great to know that Sony and Microsoft are ready to pull out all the stops, economically and technologically, to please gamers worldwide.

Just in case you guys don’t know, David Jaffe IS NOT working on God of War 3. The rumored date for God of War 3′s release is Christmas 2009, not 2010. Gears of War 3 hasn’t even been confirmed to be in development yet.
David Jaffe is working on his own game… most likely his new game will be a Twisted Metal game for the PS3 because in Twisted Metal Head-On (the last Twisted Metal game he developed for the PS2) it was teased that Twisted Metal would be coming to PS3: “TWISTED METAL IS COMING ON PSTHREE”
It’s pretty dumb to start hyping God of War 3 vs. Gears 3. Both games are 2 different genres.
A more realistic comparison would be Ninja Blade v.s. God of War 3… although everyone already knows that God of War 3 is going to own that game.

Since gears is a bad excuse for a game in the presence of God of War the GoW is exclusively given to God of War. Not to mention it was around first and will be around longer.

Well, according to Almighty Google, the #1 search result for GOW is Gears of War (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=VAa&q=GOW&btnG=Search). God of War doesn’t make an appearance until the third page.
So I don’t know why you would bother 1. using that abbreviation and 2. using it to refer to God of War.

Whatta joke!! Comparing GOW with gears has got to be the stupidest thing ever!! Even GOW1 is better than gears. There’s no doubt which will be better! Stupid ass article! U dont even know when it’s coming out, GOW could be out in 09.
I think many of you are taking this article in the wrong way, so let me state three points:
1. Any two exclusive titles are bound to be in competition with one another when released around the same time, no matter their genres. Ocarina of Time versus Metal Gear Solid, LBP versus Gears 2 and so on.
2. I do not state ANY WHERE that either game is better than the other.
3. The assumptions made are based on statements and rumours already known. Either you like analysis or don’t; either it’s wrong or it’s not. You don’t have to like it, and I don’t say I’m totally right. Everybody wins.

Well, I think you should rather compare Gears 3 with Quantum Therory, since Quantum Theory is called the “Japanese Gears”, and is a Sony exclusive. Also, something some people have forgotten is the very high odds of Gears 3 going multi-platform!

There is no more of a contest between God Of War and Gears Of War as there is between men and maggots (Gears obviously being the maggots, only even worse).
While i wouldn’t go as far as to say nothing can compare to God Of War 3′s graphics (I’m thinking Uncharted: Among Thieves, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy Versus XIII) it would certainly wipe the floor with the 360 counterpart. However, as has already been stated, God Of war 3 is due out in 2009, David Jaffe is working on a different project scheduled for “Early 2010″.
So that means that while Sony will completely dominate 2009 Microsoft could take 2010 unchallenged, right? Wrong! Leaving the fact that Gears Of War 3 may well go multi – platform aside Sony have some killer exclusives themselves lined up for a possible (Likely) 2010 release:
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (Assuming it doesn’t come out next year)
LittleBigPlanet 2 (Media Molecule have confirmed work on the sequel has already begun)
Resistance 3 (On a side note, this is a MUCH better trilogy than Gears Of War could ever be)
Motrostorm (Untitled)
Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier (Naughty Dog may not be able to release it in 2009 due to the development needed for Uncharted 2)
Microsoft have no games coming out for roughly 2 years and when they DO come out they will be completely overshadowed by the PS3′s unparalleled quality of software.
Microsoft are in big trouble (Even without the fact that there’s also a PS3 price cut coming next year).
