No PS3 price cut, says Sony

Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage No Responses

When a source for D+PAD reported on Sony’s “competitive” new pricing for the PS3 from March 2009, it sounded too good to be true. However, when it comes to Sony Computer Entertainment, you can bet it is.

First, in response to the future price cuts, SCEE sent a statement to the online magazine, which read:

“Information discussed within the confines of internal company meetings is confidential and subject to change. We do not have anything to announce at present and we do not comment on rumour and speculation.”

Just recently, a Sony rep spoke to Edge and officially clarified their stance:

“There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 09, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumor or speculation.”

A possible explanantion could be the upcoming Christmas holidays. If Sony says a price cut is coming just three months later, it would have an effect on sales in this period. Still think it’ll happen? We’ll just have to wait till next year to find out.
