NXE and the Red Ring of Death - Inseparable?

Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage 2 Responses

When we got to preview the “New Xbox Experience”, we thought it was a good move for the 360, more user friendly and accessible. A day after the official launch though, gamers who made the change say there have been a lot of problems - including a return of the Red Ring of Death.

It seems that modded consoles have it worse but everyone’s at risk, judging from the comments out there. One user on the Official Xbox forums said he got the RRoD just after upgrading.

Other complaints from users include connection freezes, slow downs, lock ups, broken TV connections, immense lag-time before and after set-up, and more. It’s possible though that the slow connections are because so many users are signing up over the same period. The overheating on the other hand…

Neither Major Nelson nor Microsoft has responded to the complaints as of yet. Microsoft will still replace your bricked 360 for free (if it’s in the warranty period) but getting over the NXE issue might be a bit harder for them.

NXE bricked my 360 (with Falcon chipset, even). It worked fine for about half an hour, then BOOM! Error 74. Which is even more infuriating than RRoD because it isn’t covered by warranty. Unreal.

If the console’s been bricked for any reason, you should be able to replace it through MS’s warranty scheme. I mean, I’m sure that’s the reason they introduced it.
