Gears of War 2 Skips Germany and Japan

Filed under: Gaming News and Reportage No Responses

Gears of WarGermany and Japan had it bad enough. Dead Space, EA’s premier horror action/adventure was banned in both countries. The former went a step further by banning Platinum Games’ Mad World even before the New Year (and its release, of course). Perhaps because it anticipated a similar debarring or because Epic is really on stingy about getting their product to the maximum number of consumers, the company has recently announced that Gears of War 2 would not be released in Japan and Germany.

“We can confirm that Gears of War 2 will not be available in Germany or Japan indefinitely,”

An Epic spokesperson was quoted as saying. And you thought the phrase, ‘When it’s done’ meant long waits.

Germany’s ratings organisation already declined issuing the game an age certificate. And as their recent history shows, the world is obviously still spinning for them regardless of what happens. So perhaps perplexedly, the issue remains why for Japan as well, since the original boosted sales for the console by selling 33,212 units and entering the charts at number 7, something previously unheard of for a shooter, more specifically an Western-developed one. As of now, no statement has been issued from Microsoft offices in Japan.

In the meanwhile, Gears of War 2 is still due for release worldwide come this November 7th on the Xbox 360. Of course if you were one of the lucky pups who downloaded/uploaded the game on torrents, the last bit of news is a bit of hyperbole actually.
