The sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, the 2006 RPG shooter developed by GSC Game World, tentatively titled S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky has been delayed for retail. This is supposedly due to a manufacturing error resulting in copies shipping with no CD keys. And we thought that Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition 64-figure CD key was unfair.
Clear Sky was to release on September 5th but now many online gaming retailers are listing September 15th as the new release date. The game was also to release digitally via Valve’s Steam service, but the date listed as “September 6th” is most likely not definite. This delay will not affect European audiences who’ll still receive the game as planned on September 5th from their local retail.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is the prequel to the original game and is set in 2011 in Chernobyl where the player must fend off various plants and animals mutated by the radiation fall-out. The original was also set in the same setting and was moderately successful, both critically and commercially, despite some annoying game bugs and design flaws. Not only does Clear Sky look better but took relatively less time to develop then its predecessor. Who knows, it may even be more fun to play.
