No LittleBigPlanet on PSN

LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule’s puzzle platformer, world creation software, the tentative “Next Big Thing” and all around Sack-Boy chronicle, will be releasing only on Blu-Ray for the Playstation 3 and not on the Playstation Network store.

littlebigplanet.jpgThe title had been delayed for nearly a year due to extra content being added to justify a disc release. Ironically, a disc release is now the only means of shipping the game to consumers. This can be good news for some gamers (like the gaming market in India) and bad news for others (an estimated $60 price tag rather than a $10 download). Joystiq recently spoke to the game’s US PR manager, Scott Goryl, who further confirmed the state of LittleBigPlanet this fall.

LittleBigPlanet is a Blu-ray Disc product exclusively for PS3. LBP will utilise much of PlayStation Network’s vast functionality for online and community features, but the game will indeed be distributed as a Blu-ray Disc.”

This is not to say the exclusivity will be permanent. Burnout Paradise released in January this year and has already been announced as a PSN release for this fall. The success of LittleBigPlanet could prompt SCEE to release the game on the PSN Store some time after its release. That is, if the game is as big a “system-seller” as previously proclaimed.
