From Hell (again!)

Overlord, released by Triumph Studios a little over a year ago, was a nifty surprise package — commanding an army of gremlins to do your every bidding and either raid or revere (and then brutally raid) neighbouring towns was balanced with excellent lampooning of the fantasy genre and the corruption system that, for once, challenged how low you could really go (overwhelming cruelty equals fabulous spells!).

overlord2.jpgBolstered by fans clamouring for more wicked hero-maiming, Triumph Studios has announced the 2009 release date for Overlord II. It seems the new Overlord of the series will go up against a faux Caesar and his empire to decide the fate of magic in their world. Not only is the game moving towards more realistic settings, but your minions can now, “do even more things for their master; such as riding mounts, using war machines and sailing warships in world-changing battles,” stated Lennart Sas on IGN. The game has also received an immense visual and control upgrade to make it more appealing to a new audience.

Overlord also seems to have evolved from lone wolf with a biting quip to a full-fledged franchise. Codemasters recently revealed Overlord: Dark Legend for the Wii (how’s that, anti-Madworld parents?) and Overlord Minions for the DS. Overlord II will be released on all Games For Windows PC systems, Xbox 360 and the PS3.
