Joystiq E3 impressions: Wheelman
Vin Diesel’s gaming company, Tigon Studios, is trying to make good with Wheelman, a Driver-esque, open world action/driving experience due out from Midway. There were a few… interesting innovations in the game (instead of stopping your car to steal other vehicles, you can now hijack any car on the road while in motion), but this was mostly a case of “we saw it being played so you don’t have to.” (more)
Sony Focuses On Exclusive PlayStation Games At E3, From ‘God Of War III’ To Something Called ‘Fat Princess’
Sony packed the Shrine Auditorium on Tuesday (July 15) at E3 to promote the idea that this is the year of PlayStation games, and the company presented a diverse lineup to stress that point.
On a stage with 58 flat-screen TVs, developers came out to show off material like “Resistance 2,” a fall 2008 first-person shooter that features its hero fighting a monster as tall as a skyscraper in an alien-overtaken Chicago. The company also revealed a downloadable sequel to the “Ratchet & Clank” series. And I write this after just the (official) first day of E3 — I’ve still got two more jam-packed days of giga-pixeled decapitations to wade through. “Wait, Adam, do you mean to tell me that you’re actually complaining about getting to spend your Tuesday learning about videogames as your job?!” No, dear reader, I’m not, promise. (Before I explain why I’m not complaining, though, mega bonus points to my colleagues Wook Kim and Gary Eng Walk for doing me a solid and filling in so awesomely yesterday.) There was plenty to enjoy yesterday, and I’ll get to all that shortly. But it’s also my job to be honest, and, I gotta tell ya, this isn’t exactly turning out to be a blockbuster E3. (more)
E3: The ‘Halo’ news that didn’t happen?
Leading up to the E3 video-game convention this week, there were expectations of an announcement from Bungie LLC, developer of the blockbuster “Halo” Xbox series, which started its gradual spin-off from Microsoft last year. In fact, an announcement was planned, but it was cancelled by Bungie’s publisher (which would be Microsoft), according to a message last night from Harold Ryan, Bungie president. (more)
