E3, is an annual trade show for the computer and video games industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game developers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware. Split-Screen presents a round up of what transpired in the E3 2008. This is day 2 of 3.
E3: MS unveils Xbox 360 dashboard revamp
Microsoft struck first at the world’s most prestigious video game trade show with a press conference held Monday in Los Angeles. The gaming giant used the event to announce that the dashboard for its Xbox 360 console was going to receive a major overhaul. A system update is coming this fall that will completely retool the system’s graphical user interface and give gamers the power to create customizable avatars that will act as digital representations of themselves in the Xbox Live community. E3 2008: The Day the Sony Hype Machine Didn’t Stand Still
Now that we’ve had a day where we’ve said a few snarky but mostly adoring things about Microsoft’s E3 data dump, what can we expect today from Sony’s inexorable riposte? Let’s see: PlayStation Home stuff, check…buncha cool exclusives like Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, check…Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3…err, huh? (more)
E3 2008: Dragon Age arises on consoles
Compared to the information dump at Microsoft’s press conference yesterday, Electronic Arts offered a relative trickle of new details at its event later that day. That’s not to say the publisher’s press conference was bereft of announcements, however, with EA’s id Software publishing partnership on the famed developer’s Mad Max-inspired car-combat/racing game Rage taking top billing. E3 2008: Animal Crossing Coming to Wii
At the E3 2008 Nintendo Press Conference, Nintendo a video that talked about its series, Animal Crossing and announced the latest in the series, Animal Crossing: City Folk.
City Folk has two sections, the Town and the City. The Town seems to be the residential section of the game, whereas the city is the business. (more)
E3 2008: Sony Says Consoles Have 10 Year Lifecycle
Jack Tretton launched Sony’s E3 press conference today by claiming the stress of today’s big Sony PR event has taken two years off his life. Now just imagine the stress for all those fretting fanboys. (Doesn’t two years convert into something like 12 in FanYears?) It’s the only upside to fanboy-ism: they shuffle off this mortal coil faster. But I digress… (more)
E3: Nintendo announces 60-instrument music game
Nintendo fans hoping to hear word of a new Zelda or Mario game at E3 this year will be disappointed to learn that the Japanese video game colossus delivered no such announcement at their pre-show press event in Los Angeles on Tuesday. In speaking with Nintendo of Canada’s Matt Ryan shortly after the event, I learned that the company instead outlined its plans to continue deepening the world’s pool of gamers by delivering more accessible software. E3 2008: Good God of War 3 and Holy 80GB $400 PS3
You knew it was coming, I knew it was coming, even my dog knew it was in the pipe (and hey, you know what you get when you spell dog backwards). So God of War 3, no gameplay to speak of (just a CGI trailer) but that’s okay. I guess it’s enough to know it’s officially happening, and there’s always the potential director David Jaffe and crew are saving up something to appease the Europeans at GCDC 2008 in Leipzig, Germany next month.
