Microsoft + Hitachi = Power

The evening was a blot on the name of evenings. Nothing eveningy about it. Horns and neighbours blared from the outside. Inside, the editor wiped his brow and gestured animatedly at the empty wall as he spoke the last few word into his cellphone.
“Yes, do that. Keep an eye on those. Those are hot these days.”
Across him, the reporter shifted his weight from one side of the chair to the other. He had the looks of someone about the change the course of world history. The editor’s urgent wait-one-more-second hand gestures were proving less and less effective with each passing second.
The conversation closes and the reporter is off before the editor’s cellphone touches the table.
“You won’t believe what I got?”
“Ice cream?” the editor says hopefully.
The reporter thinks the editor is joking and carries on, “Microsoft is tying up with Hitachi! To put mini air-conditioners inside Xbox 360’s.”
“Really? Are you sure?” says the editor, wishing the reporter had brought ice cream instead.
“I have proof,” the reporter says emphatically and pulls out a newspaper cutting from his bag. It is a Hitachi ad. The reporter jabs his finger at the picture and says, “See? See?”
“I can’t say that I do,” the editor gives up after a moment of scrutiny.
“This thing here!” the reporter rubs the picture in circles with his finger. It looks almost obscene. “This symbol is on my Xbox 360!”
“That round circle thing? With a stick going into it?” the editor verifies.
“Yes! That one. That picture is also on my Xbox 360!”
“That is the power symbol. They put it on power buttons.”
“Who? Hitachi?”
“Everyone. Everyone puts it on power buttons.”
“Are you sure?” the reporter is disbelieving. “Because it is on the 360. But i don’t think it’s on my PS2. At least I don’t think it’s on the PS2. Are you sure it’s on the PS3? It’s not on the old N64, I’m definite! Maybe the Wii doesn’t have it either. Maybe it’s just Sony and MS who’re trying to cool their systems because the Wii won’t need it. Umm. Oh. I see. Hmm…”
The silence stretches across what is almost a minute. Then the editor speaks, “Ice cream?”
Based on a true story. As is evident from the first comment.

I still laugh at my own folly….after that day i feel that symbol is following me everywhere I go…everywhereI tell you….its scary… :-p

Okay, first of all, “You won’t believe what I have for you” with a question mark at the end?” Secondly, “It’s not on the old N64, I’m definite!” What kind of English course did you take and fail that taught you grammar like this? And on top of that, this article isn’t funny. Not by a long shot. What’s the humorous part? What’s the whole focus of the article? I’ll tell you: A paragraph about some reporter stating how a power button wouldn’t be on some systems like it is on his. And then you try to end it with a joke that stopped being funny after the first five lines in (incidentally, it’s not even in the first five lines, so this article wasn’t even funny to begin with).
Right. I get it. Wonderful. You can’t write to save your life. Thanks for the info.

Nothing could make one dumber than knowing the thoughts that went into this travesty. And nothing could flummox any one inoculated out of their senses more than the fact that no thought went into this. So, don’t explain. It’s alright.

Much better technique than the second-rate Kotaku’s that spring up from time to time, then fade into the mist like so many dropped packets.

@ Ravi : You don’t have to put him down . Sure the incident doesn’t make much sense to you, but some people enjoy slapstick… Its the only reason bollywood comedy flicks even sell!
