Split-Screen :: The Game-Geek’s Daily Read

Over the last few days, there’s been a huge number of sites which have run a story saying that the launch of GTA IV will hurt the reception of Iron Man, and this has spun beyond the thousands of blogs out there and made it to the mainstream media as well, bringing “intelligent analysis” of the situation to the masses. And since I don’t have either of them on me, I’ve been doing a lot of reading instead.

Some of whom at least must’ve wondered, I guess, why people were making this sort of connection.

Because the way I see it at least, there’s no conflict. between the two. I mean sure, I understand, GTA, yay woo! And when I get it I’m going to lock myself up with it for a few hours as well, and umm… Lets not think about what happens after that. But here’s the thing, see.

The Iron Man movie? It’s something most gamers would want to see. There’s an overlap between us and the comic books crowd, it’s the whole well lets face it, nerd thing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course! And unlike the WoW fanatics, I think that the rest of us are used to the idea of the real world and would be willing to take a few breaks, hit that save game function, and use that time to maybe gather up a few fellow nerds and go catch a movie. Like, you know, this really cool super hero type movie? That’s like come out, like, right now? Umm. Sorry. I swear I’ll never do uptalk again.

And after watching the movie, and hopefully it’ll not be right after watching the movie, we gamers could go back and play the game again. And as for those few who are too busy playing to go to the hall? Face it Hollywood. Those guys would never have bought tickets to your movie anyway. They’re probably downloading the movie right now in fact.
