Ubisoft is coming to India!

The company has acquired a Pune-based development studio called Gameloft. Ubisoft wants to expand the already 120-strong studio launched in 2006. They are aiming at 200 employees in the next year and then to 500.

Ubisoft aims to develop handheld ports of current titles and “reinforcing” existing teams.

Ubisoft feels the acquisition will reinforce its presence in Asia “…and in the southeast region in particular,” Christine Burgess-QuĂ©mard, Ubisoft’s executive director of worldwide studios, speaking to The Escapist, said, “India has a promising future in the videogame industry and this is an opportunity for us to establish ourselves in the country.”
