The rumour mill has been grinding overtime of late, and it’s getting harder and harder to keep track of what the insiders and the credible sources who can’t be quoted have been saying, and trying to make sense of it all. Facts seem to have been deleted from the industry with almost all major publishers and developers keeping their prized creations under wraps and gamers are left wondering what really is happening, since most exclusive information is kept with hostile security and sold to the highest bidder.
And the latest one is that Gears of War 2 is under works - or rather is possibly under works - and will be announced and showcased in a really big way at GDC-08. Which is great for all Lancer loving fans, but it won’t exactly be happening that way.
Here’s why:
GDC is not a regular bring your family gaming convention, it’s a developers conference - developers from all around the globe meet to discuss and showcase the kind of technologies they are working with.
So Epic will most likely discuss in detail their latest version of the Unreal Engine and the advancements they have been able to make post the release of UT III. GoW 2 is definitely on the cards for Epic, and the technology powering this little game will probably be shown to satisfying detail. Just don’t expect a release date or gameplay mechanics to be revealed at the conference.
Cliffy B or Mark rein will probably discuss the engine in great detail at the end of which everyone will be showcased to a brief trailer showcasing the environments and characters in the game which, am sure will last no more than 15 to 30 seconds.
GDC 2007 saw Sony unveil a real time tech demo of Killzone 2 behind closed doors, not the game, they also showed the world the tools used in Getaway III not the game, what did they show was concepts like Little Big Planet which they had been working around with at that point of time and interactive HOME project . Expect Microsoft to do something similar, they will probably showcase the technology powering some of their upcoming games and the direction of their future plans, not announce new games to the majority of developers who will be attending the conference. Any bidders for the Alan Wake tech?

Killzone was supposed to be a Halo killer and got owned like a cheap prom date. Reistance got owned by Gears 1 and I expect the same for Gears 2 when it owns yet again.

gears of war was supposed to be beaten by halo 3, it wasnt. therefore, no game can beat gears of war 1 or 2.
Oh god, just leave it alone. Killzone 2 looks sweet and I hope its awesome. I loved Gears and can’t wait for info on the next one. Why would any consumer want one game to “destroy” another. LO. Just enjoy which-ever one turns out better. I’m sure a great deal of work and time is going into both and they will both be AAA titles.
hey no matter what game comes out… it will NEVER reach the maximum status of GearS oF WaR. that is the ultimate game, and there will NEVER be a game like that. all those other wannabees are just that wannabees. Gears is meant for the strong while all the competion it has is meant for the weak.

Look a Gears of War 1, it came out in 2006 and it’s graphics are still killing, so what if it’s story line has a bit missing, thats what the 2009 movie is for, the books, it’s prolouge, and future titles. Kill zone and resitance are good titles ( this coming from a xbox 360 fanboy) but they are games that are on the PS3, if anything kill zone and resitantance should be going against each other for second place because gears of war has the # 1 spot. Think about the graphic level of Gears 1, it was on an early vr. of unreal engine, so it would be safe to say that Gears 2 will be on a newer vr. of unreal engine. BIG graphical level boost the kills the competition.
I think GOW just got forcfully taken by Gears man. I swear I have heard nobody playing God of War there all playing there xbox an busting heads apart. I’m sorry But I don’t think anything can beat taking a shotgun and busting the guts of a COG soldier. And more than 50% of the people who bought the PS3 piece of crap returned it.
07′ was th xbox 360 year now in 08′ it’s going to the ps3 time
Games- For now good games include; Heavenly Sword, Resistance Fall of Man, Rainbow Six Vegas, Folklore, warhawk, lair, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Call of Duty 4 Uncharted:Drakes Fortune, Motorstorm, Eye of Judgment etc. Good upcoming games are Haze, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Yakuza 3, White Knight Story, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear online, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Afrika, Time Crisis 4, Tekken 6, Socom: Confrontation, L.A. Noire, Motorstorm 2, InFamous, Killzone 2, Kurayami, Way of the Samurai 3, etc. Over 300 games will be released by next spring.
Not to mention everythin gthe 360 don’t have
